About Kevin Shults Art & Design.

My name is Kevin Shults and I've been working as a professional graphic artist for over 30 years. I launched my own business and this site in 2012.

I began exploring my artistic side as a child in my hometown of Salem, Missouri by filling my Big Chief tablet with drawings of cartoon characters, hot rods, and the cool lettering I saw in magazines and on cereal boxes. As I grew older, I moved on to more sophisticated subject matter, techniques and media.

After high school I came to Columbia to study Commercial Art at Columbia College and I've lived in Columbia ever since. Upon graduation I worked at a small public relations firm called Dolan & Associates. Next came a stint as Art Director at MFA Incorporated, then back to the agency business as Print Production Manager at BHN Advertising. BHN eventually morphed into Hanna, Stanley & St. John Advertising. In 1990 I left HS&S to join the staff of Vangel Associates, where I worked for 21 years.

Along the way I've enjoyed working with students at local colleges and universities by reviewing portfolios and as a guest lecturer. In addition, I've taken a more formal role as adjunct faculty teaching graphic design and typography courses at Stephens College, William Woods University, and at the University of Missouri—Columbia.

Kevin and his wife Cheryl live in north Columbia. Daughter Erin and son Brandon make their homes in Columbia as well. Kevin serves on the City of Columbia Cultural Affairs Commission.
